Prevent or get an internet shutdown!!

Silicon Valley giants like Google and Facebook have undertaken an effort to notify millions of users that they could lose their internet connectivity after July 9th , 2012 due to a computer malware and this post is just about that.

This all began when a widespread malware called DNSChanger hit millions of computers as hackers used it as source of advertising scams.People in the world are usually unaware of this but those who are aware are taking all possible preventive measures against it.The Domain Name System(DNS) convert web addresses like google.com to numeric addresses for traffic relay among servers and clients.DNSChanger is a Trojan horse that changes these DNS setttings to redirect users to fake sites and other harmful locations and just to imagine how powerful it is it does not spare home routers as well.!

"Your computer seems to be infected ..." If this kind of message appears on the top of your google searches then you are a victim for sure and you are gona lose your internet connection after 9th July.Since FBI and other law enforcements in the world started arresting people indulged in spreading this malware in November 2011,several ISPs' have been noticed to spread awareness.DNSChanger affected devices will experience slowdown or shutdown of connection after July 9th. Most victims don't even know their computers have been infected, although the malicious software probably has slowed their web surfing and disabled their anti-virus software, making their machines more vulnerable to other problems.This effect of this malware is so severe can even burn your hard drives or other hardware components.!


Preventive Measures :

• Keep the virus definitions of your Antivirus up to date.
• If you experience sudden slowdown in browsing contact your ISP provider.
• Cross check the authenticity of any unknown link before clicking and being redirected to it.
• Visit this site dns-ok.lu or dns-ok.gov.au which automatically check your DNS settings to see if you are affected.
• Manually check if you are affected by visiting checking-windows-7-for-infections or checking-for-dns-changer-on-windows-xp depending on your OS.
• Read carefully the pdf issued by FBI dns-changer-malware.pdf for further information on how to know if you are affected.

What if you are a victim ?

• Visit this site immediately for a fix www.dcwg.org/fix
• May contact a computer professional.
• Users may use software and tools from McAfee, Kaspersky Labs, Microsoft, Norton, or Trend Micro to clean the infection.
• Format hard drive and reinstall OS.

Google's humor at its best

Google has always been great at creativity and humor and now a new easter egg called "Zerg Rush" adds more to it.


For those who are not familiar what zerg is , here is the information :

Zerg Rush easter egg game has been inspired by one of the best games Starcraft 2 by Blizzard Entertainment .
There are three fractions in StarCraft 2: Protoss, Terran and Zerg. Imagine the Zerg like aliens. Zergs have a unit called "the Zergling" which is a small creature that usually attacks buildings and enemy units in groups. If you have a lot of Zerglings and run to your opponents fast this can be called "a Zergling rush". There are also custom maps that you can play that are called Zerg Rush: You are in the middle of the map and Zerlings are streaming to your bade from all sides. You have to defend it like in the easter egg..!

Searching for the phrase "zerg rush" in google not only displays the relevant search results but also turns this game on and an army of o's (it is one from the word "google") attacks browser page from all sides eating away those search results.You basically have to make a couple of clicks on each one of them in order to kill them..!

Google will keep the count of your killed zerglings and the number of clicks to kill them till your whole page is destroyed. Saving your page from being eaten is inevitable.! Once the search items have been eaten they crawl back up and gather back to form a figure that reads "GG" (good game) :D


So try it out and make your high-scores to submit to Google ..!!

Backmasking

Backmasking or Backward Masking is a method wherein a message is recorded backwards onto a track that is meant to be played forwards..! Cool....isn't it?

This technique of encryption was popularized by famous rock band The Beatles in their album Revolver and since then artists have been using it for humorous and other artistic effects.It is also used to censor some phrases for a 'clean release' of a song....!

Here is a video to illustrate this technique.

Pink Floyd has himself used this technique in his song Empty Spaces from the album 'The Wall'

This technique has been linked with controversies like musicians promoting Satanism and all but nevertheless this is a great recording technique.....!

New Facebook Easter Egg

Google has constantly come up with easter eggs like 'Do a Barrel Roll' or 'Let it snow' time to time . This time Facebook has introduced an innovative easter egg for its users which basically allows you to use profile photos of your Facebook friends as emoticons ..!
And this is not all. This feature works for all the Facebook Pages and Groups..!
This would now look as what is displayed in pic below :

There are three ways how to do it....Follow these steps

• Simply write the name of the friends whose profile photo you want to use squeezed between [[ and to look like [[your friends name]] and simply press enter to transform it into emoticon.
  Eg : [[John]]

• If above doesnt work and shows blank profile pic just visit the profile of friend whose image you want to use as emoticon and then look for the url in your browser .
  
  
  • If the url looks like something like this 'https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001424013536&ref=ts' where the number in bold after id varies with user. Use this number instead of your friends name now .
    For Eg. :  to use image of user whose url looks like above type [[100001424013536]]
  • If the url contains username of the friend instead of number like 'https://www.facebook.com/SkyriderAJ', simply use the username in bold(ignoring uppercase).
    For Eg. : to use image of user whose url is as described type [[skyrideraj]] 
  • If you want to use the profile image of some group or page on facebook like the 'https://www.facebook.com/CountersXe?ref=ts'  where we use the bold letters to make a emoticon of it . [[countersxe]] or [[CountersXe]]

GET FACEBOOK TIMELINE

Want to access facebook timeline profile feature without being a developer ? Here's the way .......

We just have to pretend that we are facebook developers to get this exclusive feature .

Without wasting much time log into your facebook account and then open this link in new tab Facebook Developers or search facebook developers app in Facebook and grant the permission it asks for .

Click on 'Create New App' .....

Give any suitable name to your app and give it a namespace . Make sure the namespace is available. Check the Privacy Policy agreement and click on 'Continue' .

A security dialog appears asking you to enter captcha as shown in figure . Enter and submit .

On creation of app , Click on 'Open Graph' tab in left column .

In the two provided text fields enter the text as shown in figure below . Enter  'get' in first and 'profile' in second and click on Get Started button.....

Now open your facebook profile . After few minutes you will get a notification on the top of your profile as shown below . Click on Get It Now and enjoy the new Timeline Profile feature of facebook before its release.......... :)

Recent settings of Cyberoam Bypassed

Cyberoam again has applied some new settings....Owing to which sites have been blocked again and Facebook has become inaccessible before 7 pm and moreover torrent downloads have been restricted once again....No more Proxifier until we discover a new port....


I have discovered a new easier way to unblock all sites as well as download torrents anonymously. The simple loophole in cyberoam is that it cannot block the port forwarded to specific softwares such as You Freedom or Ultrasurf . These softwares use a specific reserved port for connecting to their servers. In our case we will use Ultrasurf .


Download Ultrasurf from here..Ultrasurf  or its easily available on DC under my share (Nick name - SkyriderAJ™  filename - U1017) ....
Be sure to save it on desktop and then log in to cyberoam . After logging in double click on Ultrasurf icon and then click on Options -> Tick on 'Do not use IE ' ... After that exit Ultrasurf and restart it . Let it connect to the server (can take some time) . After connection the ultrasurf dialog box should look as below ....

Now for the setting in firefox . Open Firefox . Go to Options -> Network tab -> Configure how firefox connects to internet settings tab . A dialog box shows up . Select Manual proxy Configuration . In HTTP proxy type 'localhost'  and in port type  '9666' and also check 'Use this proxy server for all protocols'.......Done.....!! :) ..Now you can access all blocked sites ...

You will have to change network setting back to ' Use system proxy settings' if you don't want to use proxy in firefox settings box . To prevent this hard work there is an addon available for mozilla . Download it here .. Ultrasurf Addon for Mozilla .....

Open it with mozilla firefox and let it install (requires browser restart after install) . And then enable Addon Bar from the View menu of firefox . You will see a grey icon on right bottom side of browser . Click on it and it automatically sets the proxy(grey icon turns green) for you . Clicking on it again disables proxy ....

The same settings of proxy can be applied in utorrent application connection settings to download torrents .

This trick can be used as a temporary remedy to access the internet freely ......eNjOy...... :)

RUMOR : INDIAN NATIONAL ANTHEM DECLARED BEST BY UNESCO

Its miserable that how people easily fall prey to the spams related to nation on the internet and other media .
People easily believed when a hoax that our National Anthem is written in the praise of King George V spreaded like fire....And now when an individual posts on Facebook that "UNESCO has declared our National Anthem has been declared best in the world" ; people without giving it a second thought like or comment "Gr8..!! Proud to be an Indian.." on it in overwhelming spirit of patriotism . Those who believe it are hurting their own sentiments in the form of disguise . You would frequently find a post on Facebook like the one below ...

This spam further pushes your mind on re-posting it as your own status or on another's wall ....
This is not the end ....
An email or text message subjected as following  "Congrats to all the Indians..! "  has landed into the inbox of millions of Indians till date . Such an email shows the image of our National Flag with our National Anthem jotted below it . Such emails further stress us to forward it to all in the contacts list and we even carry out this task without further thinking ...


I personally have received such emails and the tendency to get these emails increases on the occasion of 'Independence Day' making it more realistic to us . Its surprising that such emails have been circulating since 2008 and are continuing to circulate till date..!
The India Today Magazine emailed to UNESCO asking the truth value of such mails and below was the reply that they received ... 

" We are aware of several blogs in India reporting this story, but can assure you that UNESCO has made no such announcement concerning the anthem of India or any country.."

And logically if UNESCO had made any such announcement ; it would have published it on its official website  
UNESCO Official Website ..But there isn't a sign of such thing .

Rather if this was true our media is not so dumb not to publish this revolutionary news in the newspapers or in the T.V. coverage news....!! 
Besides UNESCO is not such a small scale organization that would waste its time in revising the anthem of every country and providing such titles .


But why blame others for setting fire to this hoax ..? Despite many blogs have actually written about this hoax ; most of us are still unaware of it and forward messages to friends without looking for authenticity ....The people knowingly or unknowingly involved in it are actually playing with the sentiments of millions of Indians .....

GOOGLE+ TRICKS AND CHEATS

 

Hello Friends....By now most of u must have recieved Google + invites from atleast one of ur gmail contacts . If not , hang on and I am sure u will.... :)

 

This post of mine is entirely dedicated to explain some cool features and tricks related to the new sensation in world of social networking 'Google +' . After being added to the Google +, I have spent leisure time of around 2 days playing with it , getting to know the interface, asking some really dumb questions to others and reading some tech blogs on it . Of course G+ seems a very amiable competitor of Failbook...oops!... I mean Facebook .. :D

So here are a few tricks and tips to make G+ more pleasant to u all :

• Use Google  Chrome for G+ : It was obvious to me that G+ would look better and work faster on Google Chrome browser than any other . And really it worked ... :)

• Download Chrome extension 'Surplus' : This extension allows you to access Google+ from anywhere in the web and keeps u notifying and updated so that u dont miss anything amidst your daily works. Also you can disable email notifications for G+ after downloading this extension as they appear on right top side of Chrome browser.Why recieve dozens of notifications via mail to fill up ur inbox...??

• G+ Circles feature : With it u can add any person in any circle (personalized circle too) without having the person to know which circle he has been put in ..Its a fun feature....
• Filter out ur Notifications : U can filter out all ur notifications with ease

 

• Format ur text anywhere : Using *(Text)*, _(Text)_ and -(Text)- format u can write the text in Bold , Italics and Strike through styles respectively...

• Some handy hotkeys : 

      j  or Spacebar :- scroll down to next item in stream .
     k or Shift+Spacebar :- scroll up to previous item in stream .
     Tab :- scroll thorugh comments or users on the post .
     Enter :-  While focusing on a particualr post pressing it will open comment box directly.
     Tab + Enter :- End comment .
     @ or  + :- to tag someone in the post or comment .

• Integrate Facebook with Google+ : Now this is something really cool addon for browsers which combines facebook with google +.Download and install the addon from here ... Google + Facebook

• Upload photos from your facebook with ease : Visit the site picknzip to do it . Actually with it u can download all your facebook pics in a single zip file and later upload them to G+...

• Recieve mobile notifications : On ur profile click on the settings icon on right top corner and click on Google + settings . Thne to Google+ tab and set ur mobile detials ticking all the notifications u want to recieve hwne u r logget out of ur account.

• Edit ur Comments and Posts : Unlike Facebook , G+ provides a feature to edit ur posts once posted and comments once commented . So go on write anything without the fear of ambiguity or spelling mistakes.. :)
