I have been requested by many friends of mine to blog on the above topic as they find it difficult to download torrent files at an optimum speed and so here it is now .....
Note : This blog will seem a bit more technical if you do not follow it step by step...Read my previous post on torrent basics and downloading......keep up with the steps by performing them practically........
Starter .....
As a starter you will need to know the maximum download and upload speed of your internet connection.You can test your download and upload speed test here ...www.speedtest.net/ . Just hover to the site and Click 'Begin Test'
After getting the result in Mbps convert it to Kbps(Kilobits per second) by multiplying it by 1000 and then convert it to KBps(KiloBytes per second) .... [Sorry for such calculations ; but believe me it owes us lost downloading speed..:)]
Note these values as we will need these in calculation of settings......
Settings and Tweaks....
Open uTorrent and Go to Options > Preferences > Connection and check if the settings are Checked/Unchecked exactly the same as shown in the image below. The 'Port' can differ but it should be set higher than 10000 for best results (for info there are 65536 ports in all !!)...
Now go to Bandwidth tab just below Connection tab and tweak the settings as follows:
- Maximum Upload Rate : 0.8 * (your upload speed in KBps)
- Maximum Download Rate : 0.95 * (your download speed in KBps)
- Global Maximum number of connections : 200
- Maximum number of connected peers per torrent : 1.3 * (your upload speed in KBps)
- Maximum number of upload slots per torrent : 1 + (upload speed in KBps/6)
- Check 'Use additional upload slots if upload speed < 90%'
As mine download speed in KBps was 72.5 and upload speed 58.75 (calculated by speedtest) I have my own settings as below)
Now to next BitTorrent tab just check and uncheck the settings as shown below and also set the
' Protocol Encryption Outgoing : Enabled '
The tweaks are done except a simple hack . Apply all changes as described above and have a boost to your downloading speed ..... :)
Once the file has just started downloading in uTorrent , just right click on it and click on ' Properties '
Now in trackers window copy and paste the following trackers list and click OK :
